The wording of these accounts is notable. Even supportive versions generally state that the object was “probably” stored at the facility rather than documenting its location through wartime records. A related version entered wider public discussion through former intelligence officer David Grusch, who alleged that the United States acquired a craft originally recovered in Fascist Italy, with assistance from Pope Pius XII during the closing phase of the war. Consequently, the claim that Allied personnel could have reached aviation facilities associated with SIAI Marchetti is historically compatible with the campaign timeline. Not necessarily.

Industrial aviation facilities routinely became Allied objectives during the final campaign because they contained aircraft, engines, technical drawings, machine tools and research material valuable for post-war intelligence exploitation. SIAI Marchetti was a significant Italian aircraft manufacturer whose factories produced military aircraft and had been repeatedly targeted by Allied bombing during the war.
