The important limitation is that this reasoning establishes only capability. It shows that the Italian government could have hidden an event, not that it actually hid this particular event.
Where secrecy arguments become unfalsifiable
The strongest historical explanations remain open to being disproved by evidence. Problems arise when secrecy itself becomes the explanation for every missing piece of evidence.
Applied to the Magenta story, the reasoning can become circular:

This distinction matters because historical methodology treats secrecy as context rather than proof. A classified weapons project, intelligence operation or diplomatic negotiation is eventually established through authentic records, multiple independent sources or corroborating archives. A balanced assessment
Within the Magenta case, political censorship is one of the more historically plausible elements of the narrative.
