Introduction
One of the most testable elements of the alleged 1933 Magenta UFO crash is the claim that the recovered object was transported to the SIAI-Marchetti aircraft works at Vergiate. Unlike an isolated countryside incident, an aviation factory is a place where people work, security is organised, materials are logged and unusual activities often leave administrative traces. That does not mean every record would necessarily survive wartime and subsequent decades, but it does mean the Vergiate stage creates expectations that differ from the earlier crash narrative.
The difficulty is that the public Magenta story has never produced identifiable Vergiate workers, guards, engineers, transport personnel or administrators who independently described such an event. Why the hangar claim creates witness expectations
Moving a supposedly extraordinary object into a major aeronautical facility expands the number of potential witnesses dramatically.
If the object was genuinely housed inside the SIAI-Marchetti works at Vergiate, ordinary industrial activity would have intersected with the alleged secret operation. Depending on how the transfer occurred, potential participants could have included:
- factory managers;
- engineering staff;
- maintenance personnel;
- military guards;
- drivers and transport crews;
- administrative clerks;
- warehouse staff;
- cleaning and support workers.
Even if only a small compartment of the workforce knew the true nature of the object, many others might reasonably have noticed unusual security measures, restricted areas, unexpected deliveries or official inspections.
This is one reason historians distinguish between a secret programme and an invisible programme. Genuine classified projects often leave indirect evidence even when the central documents remain secret.

What is missing is equally significant.
There are no publicly identified:
- Vergiate employees claiming to have seen the object.
- Security personnel describing extraordinary guarding arrangements.
- Factory engineers leaving memoirs about examining an unusual craft.
- Production logs referring to unexplained storage activity.
- Internal correspondence discussing the arrival of an unidentified vehicle.
- Contemporary photographs placing an anomalous object inside the facility.
The absence of these categories does not automatically disprove the story. Industrial records can be destroyed, wartime archives are often incomplete, and employees may never have known what they were seeing. Nevertheless, the lack of corroborating workplace evidence means the Vergiate claim rests almost entirely on the alleged documents rather than on an independent body of testimony.
Why silence from a large workplace matters
Large aviation factories are unusual environments for maintaining absolute secrecy.
Aircraft production depends upon movement of equipment, skilled labour, inventories and inspections. Even highly classified military projects generally generate multiple administrative layers because buildings must be allocated, materials delivered and personnel assigned.

For the alleged Vergiate storage, no comparable documentary trail has entered the public historical record.
That absence is especially noticeable because SIAI-Marchetti itself was a major industrial concern rather than an isolated military bunker.
Could secrecy explain the missing witnesses?
Supporters of the Magenta story sometimes argue that Fascist Italy’s security apparatus could have prevented disclosure.
Certainly, the Fascist state possessed mechanisms for censorship, surveillance and political repression. Sensitive military work could be compartmentalised, and employees could be instructed not to discuss restricted projects.
However, secrecy becomes progressively harder to maintain as the number of participants increases.
A prolonged programme involving transport, storage, engineering study and security inside a functioning aircraft manufacturer would normally expand the circle of people with at least partial knowledge. Over decades, historians would expect at least some secondary traces to emerge through:

- memoirs;
- local oral history;
- retirement interviews;
- company archives;
- municipal records;
- personal diaries.

The Vergiate claim is unusually amenable to historical investigation because it concerns a fixed location rather than a fleeting observation.
Potentially useful evidence would include:
- Employment records: identifying personnel who could plausibly have participated in unusual storage or security duties.
- Factory correspondence: letters concerning restricted buildings, special deliveries or government directives.
- Construction and maintenance files: evidence that particular hangars were modified or isolated for exceptional purposes.
- Security documentation: guard rosters, visitor registers or military liaison records.
- Transport documentation: records of heavy or unusual cargo arriving from outside the normal production chain.
- Personal archives: diaries, photographs and memoirs from employees or their families.
None of these categories would by themselves establish that an extraterrestrial craft existed. They could, however, independently confirm that an unusual operation occurred at the factory during the relevant period.
Conversely, continued failure to locate such evidence leaves the alleged storage phase dependent on the authenticity and interpretation of the later documents rather than on converging historical records.
What the missing workplace trail means for the wider case
The Vergiate episode occupies an important position in the overall Magenta narrative because it moves the story from an alleged crash site into a permanent industrial setting.
If independent witnesses from the factory were identified—or if archival workplace records emerged showing an unexplained high-security storage operation—that would materially strengthen the historical case that something unusual occurred, regardless of what the object ultimately proved to be.
At present, however, the public evidence does not include identifiable Vergiate employees, guards or administrators whose testimony independently supports the alleged storage of a recovered craft. As a result, the Vergiate stage illustrates the broader witness problem in the Magenta case: a story that would be expected to generate an ordinary workplace trail instead relies almost entirely on late-emerging documentary claims whose provenance remains disputed.
