What a named witness would need to establish
A named witness would not have to prove that the recovered object was extraterrestrial. Simply identifying a verifiable participant could answer several basic historical questions that remain unresolved.
A credible witness would ideally be someone who could be independently placed within the alleged chain of events, such as:
- a local resident who directly observed the reported crash or emergency landing;
- a military officer involved in securing the site;
- a transport worker who moved the object;

The result is an unusually weak witness chain:
- the alleged original witnesses are unnamed or unavailable;
- the intermediary source remains anonymous;

Why historians treat witness absence as a credibility issue rather than disproof
