This matters because official transfer creates several independent checks:

What archival custody does not prove
Strong archival custody should not be confused with proof that every reported event actually occurred.
Project Blue Book contains thousands of witness reports, investigative summaries and Air Force assessments. The archival record demonstrates that these documents were genuinely created and maintained by the responsible government programme. It does not demonstrate that every witness accurately described what they saw or that every official explanation was necessarily correct. This distinction is important when comparing Blue Book with disputed historical collections. Archival authenticity answers questions such as:
- Was this document genuinely produced by the claimed organisation?
