Italian military aviation between the 1920s and the Second World War produced extensive documentation because aircraft development required coordination between government ministries, military commands, manufacturers and testing establishments. For a genuine recovery programme, historians would seek answers to practical questions:
- Where was the object initially secured?
- Which military unit accepted responsibility?
- Who authorised transfers between locations?
- Which engineers signed receipt of components?
- Where did the object go during wartime evacuations?
- If transferred to another country, what transport records support that movement?
Each transfer would normally require inventories, receipts or operational orders because military organisations rely on accountability for valuable assets.

Secret programmes depend on people, and people leave careers behind them.

Why aviation archives matter more than atmospheric stories
The Magenta narrative often focuses on the alleged crash itself. From an engineering perspective, however, the more informative question concerns what happened afterwards.
Aircraft development is cumulative. Designers solve thousands of practical problems through testing, measurement and incremental refinement. Consequently, genuine reverse engineering should produce visible downstream effects:
- unexpected technological leaps inconsistent with known research;

- abrupt changes in propulsion or materials research unsupported by ordinary engineering development.

The weakness of the public Magenta reverse-engineering claim is not simply the absence of dramatic proof. It is the absence of the interconnected evidence that real engineering programmes normally generate.
Evidence that would substantially strengthen the historical case would include:
- authenticated original archival files with secure provenance;
